API call to get the store specific QR code

At the moment, QR codes used for VLink configuration are accessible only trough VManager. However, It should be made possible to fetch the store specific QR code trough an API call using the name of the store instance. The API call could, for instance, return a picture in png format. This enhancement would help us to provide always up-to-date QR codes to our stores and eliminate the need to grant access to VManager to all our store users.

    The problem with the configuration file as already been addressed to our team and is currently being resolved.

    This is why we have decided not to implement this feature as you mentioned it is not relevant if the file is working.

    1) Through the file configuration

    • We have not been able to get this to work yet. If configuration by file would work on our devices, this suggestion would be insignificant.

    2) Through the QR Code in VUSION Manager

    • We are not going to grant access to VManager to all of our store users. Managing the user rights would require too much work. We are talking about hundreds of users.

    We provide a store specific intranet page to all of our stores, so it would be extremely logical if the QR code could also be found there together with all other information and user guides (with an API call this would be possible) without the need for the user to log in to some other service in order to get the correct QR code.

    I suggest the QR code would be available trough an API call where the information would be fetched by the name of the store instance.

    Few scenarios listed where requested feature would be better than existing ones:
    a) accessing QR code to set up (Android) VLink App in BYOD-devices; effective store personnel self service (instead of accessing VManager first)
    b) replacement of broken PDAs in stores. In order to take new device from pool into use, store specific configuration files should be more easily accessible 24/7 than via VManager by specially authorized persons
    c) Scenario where hundreds of stores are supported by the 1st level support (support is not only for ESL solutions but covering wide set of solutions like POS, ordering systems, etc meaning tens of support persons having only limited knowledge of the details of each systems and no access to all) - support should still be able to take the QR code immediately in a case of error / replacement situations - this would boost the problem solving and avoid unnecessary ticket creation to the second level support. As the setup itself is very easy task, also the QR code should be easily available. Taking snapshots and storing those in emails / sharepoints / printing to paper is juts not the most feasible solution.

    Today, there are two ways to configure VUSION Link:

    • Through the file configuration

    • Through the QR Code in VUSION Manager

    If none of these options correspond to your need, can you give us more information to understand why ?
